Job Summary
The University of Utah, a member of the Big 12 Conference, is seeking applications for a Director of Athletics Compliance to maintain the day-to-day oversight of the University's Division I NCAA compliance program.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary compliance liaison for assigned sport programs.
- Assist with the investigation, documentation, and reporting of NCAA rules violations.
- Prepare and submit NCAA and Big 12 Conference waivers.
- Develop, implement, and deliver a comprehensive rules education program for internal and external constituents.
- Research, analyze, and communicate NCAA rules interpretations to coaches, staff, and other stakeholders.
- Develop, coordinate, and oversee sport-specific and department-wide compliance audits.
- Manage team rosters and student-athlete eligibility records in Compliance + Recruiting, CA 2.0, and CAPS, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of roster declarations.
- Assist the Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director for Governance and Brand Strategy with monitoring of NIL Go activities, including reviewing submissions, tracking compliance, and supporting institutional NIL oversight efforts.
- Educate student-athletes, coaches, staff, and other constituents on NCAA sports wagering rules and regulations.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Associate Athletics Director for Compliance.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- Three (3) years combined athletics compliance experience at a Non-Autonomy Five institution, conference, or at the NCAA National Office, or two (2) years of experience at an Autonomy Five institution or conference.
- Advanced legal degree can substitute for one year of experience.
- Progressive experience in an NCAA Division I compliance role; demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of NCAA rules, regulations, processes, interpretations, appeals and governance structure; demonstrated commitment to institutional control.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
Priorities
- Juris Doctor or Master's degree.
- Successful completion of the NAAC Education Certification program;
- Experience in compliance and student-athlete educational programming at either a Autonomy Five institution, or Autonomy Five conference office;
- Supervisory experience;
- Proven experience in working with high-profile intercollegiate sports programs.
Preferences
Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate proficiency in commonly-used technological processes such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, NCAA LSDBi, and NCAA CA.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related field preferred.
