About the role

The Associate Athletics Director for Compliance assists the Senior Associate Athletics Director, Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer ensuring compliance with all aspects of institutional, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations governing intercollegiate athletics operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provides general oversight and is responsible for the day-to-day functions of the Athletic Compliance Office including but not limited to personnel, recruiting, playing, and practice seasons, financial aid, eligibility and NIL processes for all sports.
  • Aids coaches and athletic staff to ensure compliance with all aspects of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Implement and maintain system communication, organization, documentation, and evaluation to establish accountability in all areas of compliance.
  • Establish dialogue related to compliance with athletics staff members, institutional staff members and campus partners.
  • Cover NCAA eligibility requirements for certification of student-athletes for initial, continuing, transfer, and/or amateur eligibility.
  • Serve as the primary contact with NCAA Eligibility Center for incoming freshmen student-athletes eligibility.
  • Oversee and implements the annual rules education plan for students, coaches, staff, campus partners and boosters.
  • Answer question and respond accordingly to compliance inquiries from high school administrators, parents, prospective student-athletes and UIC community at large.
  • Formulate and implement the NCAA waiver process for eligibility, amateurism issues, legislative relief, and student-athlete reinstatement.
  • Process and reports NCAA violations.
  • Cover oversees and coordinates the monitoring of playing and practice sessions, time management plan regulations and countable athletic related activities (CARA) to ensure compliance with NCAA rules and guidelines for assigned sports.
  • Duties include attendance and institutional monitoring, including but not limited to team practices, student-athletes' activities during summer period, and verification with the strength and conditioning staff and student-athletes.
  • Serve as the primary department liaison to campus partners including but no limited to campus housing.
  • Research rule interpretations for athletic department staff members, including researching questions regarding NCAA rules presented by coaching staff, athletic administrators, and personnel from other departments.
  • Participate in NCAA rules education procedures and process to assure understanding of NCAA regulations.
  • Utilize TeamWorks system including Recruiting and Compliance to enhance monitoring, rules education and documentation management.
  • Participate in various campus committees and state and regional professional organizations.
  • Manage sensitive and confidential information related to student-athletes, coaches, and staff.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a master’s degree in a related field required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of experience working in an athletic department at the Division 1 level.
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills as well as organization, problem solving, and multi-tasking skills.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree preferred.
