We are seeking a licensed allied healthcare professional whose primary focus is the optimal health of student athletes and physically active individuals. Under the direction of a physician, the certified athletic trainer will specialize in injury prevention, evaluation, emergency care, rehabilitation, and safe return-to-play protocols.
About the Role
The athletic trainer will be assigned to provide outreach athletic training services to high school and junior high school athletics at contracted schools.
Responsibilities
- Communicate and demonstrate a professional image/attitude for patients, families, clients, athletic directors, coaches, coworkers, and others.
- Provide high-quality care to athletes/patients, including prevention, immediate care, assessment, rehabilitation, referral, and communication with providers.
- Monitor athletic activities and events for potential safety hazards or unsafe practices; notify supervisors and make recommendations to athletic directors or coaches regarding protective equipment.
- Collaborate with coaches to develop and implement effective training and conditioning programs for student athletes.
- Perform initial assessments and care for emergent, acute, and chronic sports-related injuries and illnesses; determine if a higher level of care is needed.
- Communicate with school officials, parents/guardians, and medical providers regarding injuries, care, and recommendations.
- Develop individualized treatment plans and interventions under the supervision of the Medical Director or athlete’s physician; provide onsite rehabilitation or recommend therapy referrals.
- Document athlete health status, injuries, treatments, and encounters in the EPIC Electronic Medical Record system, including:
- Demographic information, team/sport participation, and grade at the start of each sports season.
- Injury/illness details within 7 days, including date/time, body part, severity, mechanism, and initial management.
- Thorough initial assessments with history, observation, palpation, range of motion, manual muscle testing, neuro evaluation, special tests, and differential diagnosis.
- Provide return-to-play guidance to athletes, coaches, and parents/guardians following injury under medical supervision.
- Maintain communication with the Medical Director and consult regarding referrals for additional services.
- Participate in continuing education and professional development activities; attend/present at in-service sessions and external growth opportunities.
- Adhere to federal/state guidelines, professional codes, and organizational policies.
- Meet organizational standards in a fiscally responsible manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including equipment management and tasks outlined in the Competency Checklist.
Requirements
- Graduate of a CAATE-accredited bachelor’s or master’s degree program.
- Board of Certification (BOC) certified in good standing.
- Current state licensure in the state of primary practice; dual licensure in New York and Pennsylvania preferred.
- Current BLS Certification for healthcare professionals.
- Experience working with adolescent athletic populations preferred.
Pay
The contracted rate of pay for this per diem position is $48.23 per hour.
