Athletic Trainer - Sports Medicine - Full Time

Position Summary

The certified athletic trainer is a licensed allied healthcare professional whose primary concern is the optimal health of student athletes and physically active individuals. Under the direction of a physician, they specialize in injury prevention, injury evaluation and management, emergency situations, rehabilitation, and returning the athlete to play safely and quickly. The certified athletic trainer will be assigned to provide outreach athletic training services to high school & junior high school athletics at contracted schools and, when required, provide outreach services in the clinical setting.

Education, License & Certification

• Graduate of a CAATE‑accredited bachelor's or master's degree program.
• Board of Certification (BOC) certified in good standing.
• Current licensure in the state of primary practice is required.
• Current dual licensure in New York and Pennsylvania is preferred.
• Current BLS certification as mandated.

Experience

• Education/experience working with adolescent athletic populations preferred for high‑school outreach positions.
• Education/experience working with diverse, active patient populations preferred for clinical‑setting duties.

Essential Functions

• Communicates and demonstrates a professional image/attitude for patients, families, clients, athletic directors, coaches, coworkers, and other patient‑care providers.
• Provides high‑quality care to athletes/patients, including prevention, immediate care, assessment, rehabilitation, referral, and communication with providers; monitors athletic activities for safety hazards and makes recommendations to athletic directors or coaches regarding protective equipment; collaborates with coaches to develop and implement effective training and conditioning programs.
• Provides initial assessment and care for emergent, acute, and chronic sports‑related injuries and illnesses, and determines timely need for higher‑level care.
• Communicates with school officials and parents/guardians about injuries, care provided, and recommendations; works closely with the Medical Director/physician(s) to treat and rehabilitate injured student athletes; develops individualized treatment plans and may provide onsite rehabilitation or refer to outpatient therapy.
• Communicates with the patient‑care team regarding care provided in the clinic/office setting; assists the clinical team by streamlining workflows, maximizing patient throughput, and optimizing care.
• Documents health status, injury, illness, immediate care, treatment, rehabilitation, and encounters in the Electronic Medical Record (EPIC EMR).
• Provides return‑to‑play guidance to athletes, coaches, and parents/guardians under supervision of the Medical Director/physician/provider.
• Maintains appropriate communication with the Medical Director and consults regarding referrals for other services as needed.
• Participates in continuing education and professional development; attends/presents at departmental in‑service sessions and external professional growth activities, sharing information with the team.
• Adheres to federal and state guidelines, professional organization standards, entity facilities policies, and organizational policies; follows applicable professional codes, employee handbook, unit policies, and procedures.
• Meets established organizational standards in a fiscally responsible manner.
• Complies with annual rehabilitation learning and documentation requirements.

Other Duties

• Other duties as assigned.
• All equipment and duties within the sports medicine department as listed in the Competency Checklist.
• Complete clinical competency as assigned.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $29.62 – $46.69 per hour. This position is also eligible for a $30,000 sign‑on bonus.
