Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive athletic care, and treatment, in collaboration with a physician, in accordance with the Athletic Trainer’s education and training as well as national and state statutes, rules and regulations, both on and off the field.
- Evaluate student athletes and develop appropriate plan of care.
- Deliver the six domains of athletic training: prevent, protect, evaluate, assess, rehabilitate, and counsel.
- Act as a resource for athletic training-related issues to assistive personnel and staff from other departments.
- Refer student athletes to appropriate HonorHealth physicians and care providers to promote outcome alignment and collaborative care.
- Confer with all referred physicians to clarify treatment plan and discuss student athlete's needs, status, and discharge plans.
- Serve as a liaison between physicians, administrators, coaches, parents, and student athletes regarding injury prevention, diagnosis, care, management, treatment, and rehabilitation.
- Maintain record of student/athlete interactions/visits/sessions in EMR software.
- Supervise assigned athletic training team and at designated location.
- Mentor, lead, schedule and direct their assigned staff, ensuring quality of care.
- Contribute to the recruitment, training and retention of athletic training staff.
- Ensure emergency action plans and safety action plans for all athletic venues and events are reviewed with team at minimum at the beginning of each season.
- Organize semi-annual drills for each plan at each venue.
- Assist in the identification of department needs and process improvements.
- Manage assigned athletic training clinic including but not limited to, inventory management, cleanliness and sanitization, organization, staffing, scheduling, and supervise/educate students, volunteers, and the community.
- Educate interns, students, volunteers, and the community on appropriate care, training, and safety measures.
- As assigned, act as preceptor to any assigned student athletic trainer; teach and train student on standards of care, assign, instruct, and directly supervise care delivered by the student athletic trainer.
- Work directly with students’ university and provide reports.
- Participate in departmental and interdepartmental staff meetings, in-services, utilization review programs, committees, student preceptor and/or mentor programs and others as assigned.
- Attend and participate in all pre-season physical exam clinics.
- Maintain all required licenses and certifications.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or related field.
- Masters in Athletic Training may be substituted with experience and NATA BOC certification.
- Prior experience in a related role preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - Certification.
- Athletic Trainer Certification (ATC) - Certification.
- CPR - Certification.
- NATA BOC Certification upon hire.
