Job Summary

UK HealthCare Sports Medicine is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Athletic Trainer. Your primary focus will be the daily medical coverage, injury prevention, assessment, rehabilitation, and return-to-play planning for athletes within the university’s athletics system. You’ll act as a liaison between players, coaches, and healthcare professionals to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of athletes.

Additional Duties

  • Managing medical documentation and injury tracking.
  • Cooking with UK HealthCare’s physicians and rehabilitation specialists for athlete referrals.
  • Aiding in emergency planning and response protocols at training and match facilities.
  • Promoting education and awareness regarding injury prevention and performance optimization.
  • Supporting event coverage and medical operations for events and teams as needed.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

  • Strong understanding of sports injury prevention, evaluation, and rehabilitation techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with athletes, coaches, and families.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficient in EMR documentation and basic administrative tasks.
  • Commitment to continuing education and evidence-based clinical practice.

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training required; Master's degree preferred.
  • National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATA BOC) required.
  • Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure (KBML) licensure or eligibility at time of hire.
  • Experience working with collegiate athletes.
  • Prior outreach/field-based AT experience preferred.
