About the role
The Athletic Trainer provides athletic training services to student athletes under the direction of the team physician or referring physician in accordance with the PA State Athletic Training Practice Act. The role acts as a liaison between the school community, parents, and referring physicians for injury treatment.
Responsibilities
- Assesses, manages, treats, rehabs, and reconditions athletes.
- Observes the domains of Athletic Training established by the BOC.
- Performs basic direct patient care activities in a physician office or therapy setting as assigned.
- Injury/Illness prevention and wellness protection: assess athletes and clients to screen for potential risk factors, educate on injury and illness prevention, conduct physical exams, communicate injuries to coaches and families, provide immediate emergency care, and treat and rehabilitate injuries.
- Manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, neuromuscular rehabilitation, agility training, modalities including ultrasound, electric stimulation, traction, light, biofeedback, bracing, casting, and splint removal.
- Maintains medical records, develops policies and procedures, and complies with state and federal laws and regulations.
- Supports performance improvement initiatives, collects data, and incorporates performance improvement initiatives into practice.
- Maintains a clean and safe environment, ensures supplies are replenished daily, and develops an emergency action plan and risk management plans.
- Fills out forms for physician orders, completes standard billing and reimbursement practices, and operates within operational and capital budgets.
- Operates vehicles, heavy equipment, and performs tasks requiring lifting up to 50 lbs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in related field (Exercise Science or Kinesiology).
- Completed an accredited Athletic Trainer curriculum.
- Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and critical thinking skills.
- Current licensure as an Athletic Trainer in the State of Pennsylvania.
- Certified through the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers (BOC).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- Act 33, Act 34, and Act 73 clearances.
- Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License.
Qualifications
- Previous outpatient office experience preferred.
- Experience with athletic training at the secondary or intercollegiate levels preferred.
Skills
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Knowledge of athletic training protocols and standards.
- Proficiency in medical record keeping and documentation.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions under pressure.

$10,000 sign-on bonus eligible.
Schedule
Rotates shifts, standby, on-call, and travel may be expected locally between Excela Health locations.
