Athletic Trainer for Club Sports (Part-Time)

About the role

This part-time position provides on-site medical care for the upcoming Rugby Preseason (with potential regular-season coverage based on need), coordinates medical care operations for designated club sports, and oversees medical administrative responsibilities for the Recreation Department. Operating under the direction and professional license of the University Physician, the Athletic Trainer will support the development of student-athletes through active programs and services that promote wellbeing.

Responsibilities

  • Provide prevention, management, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries, ensuring strict compliance with standards of clinical care.
  • Hold complete, independent, and unchallengeable decision-making authority regarding all student-athlete participation in sport activities, including practices and competitions.
  • Serve as the primary medical contact for Men's and Women's Club Rugby; coordinate direct communication with university physicians and refer injured athletes to appropriate medical services (Student Health Services, specialists, etc.).
  • Coordinate, administer, and review all post-concussion tests and return-to-play protocols with individual students to ensure safe reentry into their sport.
  • Submit comprehensive injury reports in a timely manner and determine appropriate follow-up care or directives for injured students.
  • Ensure all pertinent and reported student injuries are properly communicated to University medical staff, Student Health Services (SHS), and the Department of Recreation.
  • Serve as a central liaison between coaches, student-athletes, administrators, physicians, and parents; maintain regular communication with the University Physician and administrative sport supervisor regarding injuries, updates, and return-to-play procedures.
  • Provide department-wide guidance on policies and procedures for high-risk sports administration.
  • Partner directly with club sport coaches, student leaders, and safety officers to ensure completion of all necessary paperwork, training, and tests.
  • Manage and maintain the inventory for all medical kits.

Requirements

  • Must be a Certified Athletic Trainer.
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.

Schedule

15 hours per week during the academic year (9 months) with additional event coverage/supervision as needed. Casual appointments are limited to a maximum of 999 hours per year across all University positions.
