Responsibilities

  • Onsite care and management of injuries and illnesses including prevention, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation.
  • Assess risk of injury; perform ergonomic evaluation and coaching, self-care implementation, and overall wellness promotion.
  • Electronic documentation of all patient encounters.
  • Attend home intercollegiate contests as directed.
  • Provide athletic training coverage for away contests as deemed appropriate.
  • Coordinate care with Strength and Conditioning staff on injury prevention strategies, training modifications for injury or health, and collaboration on performance improvement for holistic and seamless care.
  • Coordinate and implement injury prevention programs and customized preventative strategies and programs for each patient.
  • Minimize risk of injury through awareness, education, and prevention strategies.
  • Provide accommodation recommendations, related to sport, for student athletes with restrictions or limitations.
  • Communicate with physicians and coaching staff regarding the injury status of athletes.
  • Carry out medical care for assigned student-athletes per the sports medicine standard operating procedures.
  • Responsible for administrative and other duties as assigned by Director of Sports Medicine.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or related field and two years of athletic training experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • National Athletic Trainers' Association membership and Board of Certification certified.
  • Active qualifying strength and conditioning certification (CSCS or SCCC).
  • Must hold or be eligible for Washington State Athletic Trainer License.
  • Current certifications in CPR and First Aid for the healthcare provider/professional rescuer. Must undergo training to become a certified instructor.
  • Adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the NCAA, WAC, or any athletics conference in which Seattle University is a member or may join.
  • Report any suspected violations of NCAA/WAC rules to Compliance and Rules Education at the University and cooperate fully with investigations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and the university's mission, vision, and values.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree and two years of Division I collegiate athletic training room experience.

All positions at Seattle University require a criminal history background check.

Skills

  • Applied Knowledge: Athletic trainers must have knowledge of a large range of medical problems. Assessment, evaluation skills, and working with other healthcare professionals will be required.
  • Decision-Making Skills: Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and return-to-play decisions per state licensure guidelines.
  • Attention to Detail: Athletic trainers should be thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively in high-stress/pressure situations when talking to patients, medical professionals, staff, and families.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision.

Pay

$55,000 - $65,000. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as qualifications, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
