Athletic Trainer

Cognito Systems, a joint venture with Planned Systems International (PSI), is looking for a dedicated and skilled Athletic Trainer to join the U.S. Army’s rapidly expanding Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) program at Ft. Polk near Leesville, LA. This is an opportunity to be part of the Army’s largest human performance optimization initiative, contributing to real outcomes such as a 23% increase in Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) pass rates, reduced musculoskeletal injuries, and improvements in behavioral health.

About the role

As a key member of an interdisciplinary team, you’ll work collaboratively with physical therapists, strength and conditioning coaches, dietitians, cognitive performance experts, and occupational therapists. The H2F program, launched in 2018 and scaled across brigades beginning in 2020, has already been implemented in 45 active-duty brigades, with full expansion to 110 brigades expected by fiscal year 2027.

Responsibilities

• Deliver prevention-focused care, acute injury management, and rehabilitation for musculoskeletal injuries to support soldier readiness.
• Engage in performance optimization strategies addressing the five H2F readiness domains: physical, mental, nutritional, sleep, and spiritual.
• Support unit leaders with evidence-based strategies to reduce injuries, promote recovery, and enhance overall unit readiness.
• Leverage data and tools developed by the Center for Initial Military Training (CIMT) to track and improve performance outcomes.
• Serve as a key player in improving soldier performance, ACFT pass rates, and resilience across the force.
• Work hands-on with soldiers during training or recovery in a dynamic, on-site environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree from a college or university accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).
• Passing score from the Board of Certification (BOC) for the Athletic Trainer.
• National Provider Identifier (NPI).
• Unrestricted state license/registration/certification in any of the 49 regulated states, the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the US Virgin Islands to provide health care within the scope of practice for Athletic Trainers per state practice acts (in-state licensure required as part of onboarding).
• Two years of relevant Athletic Training work experience within the last three years.
• Experience working with active populations (e.g., military, high school, collegiate, professional sports, performing arts, occupational health).
• U.S. Citizenship.
• Ability to pass background check and drug screen, with current physical and immunizations.

Physical Demands

• Dynamic and on-site role requiring adaptability in a fast-paced, multifaceted environment.
• Duties may shift throughout the workday, with hands-on interaction with soldiers during training or recovery.
• Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds and spend time on feet, in the elements, while carrying supplies.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week.
