Essential Performance Responsibilities

Operate a program within the philosophy of the school.

Able administer game details for home and away contests.

  • Assign assistant coaches specific duties.
  • Ensure that all information and materials are conveyed to assistants.
  • Be fully aware of legal responsibilities of his/her activity, take precautions against negligence, and keep the staff fully informed thereof.
  • Provide for care, maintenance, and ordering of equipment and facilities for the entire program.
  • Recommend assistant coaches.
  • Recommend letter winners.
  • Use professionally sound coaching methods.
  • Set a good example for assistants.
  • Be highly competent in the activity (i.e., rules, techniques, strategies and skills).
  • Motivate the staff and players toward desired goals.
  • Set the pattern for wholesome public relations within the school, community and other schools involved.
  • Interpret his/her program to the community as a part of the complete educational program.
  • Perform and promote all activities in compliance with the equal employment and non-discrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.
  • Participate in training programs offered to enhance the individual skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities.
  • Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibilities.
  • Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures.
  • Follow federal and state, as well as School Board policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • The Head Coach Qualifications: Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of any General Education Development (GED) Testing Program. Florida State Statute mandates that all high school coaches hold a valid Florida Educator Certificate. Applicants who do not hold a valid Florida Educator Certificate will be required to obtain an Athletic Coaching Certificate from the Florida Department of Education.
  • The Assistant Coach: Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program. Shall have a knowledge of the activity and be able to impart this knowledge to the participants. Computer skills as required for the position.
