About the Role
Administers all aspects of sports-specific activity within the District and individual school's Athletic Department policy, as well as within the guidelines of the Florida High School Athletics Association (FHSAA) and the National Federation of High Schools.
Responsibilities
- Announce and enforce rules pertaining to conditioning of players and the training rules affecting the health and safety of the players.
- Ensure EL2, EL3, Insurance Verification, Sportsmanship contract, birth certificate, and other required forms are on file for all team members.
- Attend mandatory FHSAA rules clinics and Gateway Conference meetings; pursue professional development through coaching clinics.
- Cooperate with the athletic director to establish physical examinations and verify no candidate is issued equipment, allowed to practice, or condition until the DCPS Athletic Health Examination Form is fully completed and signed.
- Conduct and supervise at least one fundraising activity for the sport.
- Ensure the team is supervised at all times, including locker room supervision and confirming athletes are picked up after practices and contests.
- Know and enforce rules and regulations required by Title IX, FHSAA, and the Duval County School Board.
- Monitor the academic progress of each team member on a weekly basis.
- Organize practice and game responsibilities clearly, assigning specific duties for coaching staff throughout the program.
- Report injuries to the athletic trainer or Jacksonville Sports Medicine Program and complete a Student Accident Report Form. Secure signed approval from a doctor and parents before allowing injured students to return to play.
- Support and actively participate in improving the athletic program and the total educational program of the schools.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Previous experience preferred as an athletic coach or in the coaching arena.
- Completion of required athletic coaching courses, including:
- First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
- Sudden Cardiac Arrest and Concussion in Sports (NFHS courses).
- AED training.
- Florida Department of Education Certificate (Athletic Coaching).

- Knowledge of the sport and its associated strategies.

- Ability to conduct staff meetings and oversee tryouts, practices, team meetings, and athletic contests.
- Ability to serve as a role model for student-athletes by maintaining professional conduct at all times.
- Ability to motivate student-athletes to produce their best effort and results.
