About the role

Keio Academy of New York seeks to appoint a bilingual English and Japanese Full-Time School Counselor or Counseling Associate/Technician who assists the Director of Counseling and the entire Counseling Department. The ideal candidate has experience providing counseling in a school setting and a demonstrated ability to develop and implement a wellness curriculum that serves students, faculty, staff, and the broader school community.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the role include:

• Providing individual and group counseling sessions to students
• Managing crisis intervention and emergency mental health support
• Coordinating referrals to outside mental health professionals
• Communicating with students, parents, and staff in both Japanese and English
• Collaborating with the Health Center to support students' mental health and well-being
• Designing and implementing a school-wide wellness curriculum serving students, faculty, staff, and the broader school community
• Developing workshops, programs, and resources that address mental health, resilience, and well-being across the entire school community
• Evaluating and revising programming based on feedback from students, faculty, and staff

Requirements

The requirements of the role include:

• Bilingual fluency in Japanese and English (spoken, read, and written)
• Master's degree or higher in School Counseling, Social Work, or related field preferred
• Appropriate New York State Licensure/Certification (e.g., LMSW, LCSW, LMHC, etc.) preferred
• Experience providing individual and/or group counseling to adolescents preferred
• Demonstrated experience developing or leading a wellness or social-emotional learning (SEL) curriculum preferred

• Familiarity with the cultural and social-emotional needs of Japanese students studying abroad is preferred
• Experience in a boarding school or residential setting is preferred

Pay

The salary for the role is $50,000 ~ $75,000 (Depends on Experience)

Schedule

The schedule for the role includes:

• Counseling Office Hours: Monday / Wednesday / Friday: 8:15 AM – 5:00 PM, Tuesday / Thursday: 8:15 AM – 6:00 PM
• The Counseling Department is "On Call" weekday evenings and weekends for emergency or urgent needs while the School is in session
