ASU Bookstore Course Materials Manager

About the role
Barnes & Noble College is seeking a resourceful, driven, adaptable, and customer-focused team member to work as a Department Manager in our Textbook department. You will assist customers with locating course materials for rental or purchase while supporting the daily operation of the store. As a subject matter expert, you will also help drive sales, support team members, and ensure a seamless textbook cycle each term.
Responsibilities
- Execute the textbook cycle from setup to returns independently or with the support of team members that you train, guide, and direct.
- Use department-specific technology to answer questions about course materials, recommend products/services, create textbook adoptions, maintain inventory, receive/pay invoices, and locate materials based on customer needs.
- Maintain a working knowledge of all store departments to provide daily support, direction, and guidance to customers and team members.
- Greet customers, answer questions, and assist with purchases of textbooks, merchandise, or services on the sales floor.
- Maintain an appealing sales floor—tag, shelf, arrange, clean, and organize products or spaces.
- Process sales transactions involving cash, credit, or financial aid payments as needed.
- Work directly with campus partners, students, and faculty to increase adoptions, rentals, and promote digital sales.
- Drive the team to create customer experiences that enhance bookstore loyalty and deliver measurable results.
Requirements
- 2+ years’ experience in a retail setting as a manager or buyer preferred, or a graduate of the Best Seller Program.
- High school diploma/GED required.
- Outstanding customer service skills to match customers to products that meet their needs.
- Basic reading, writing, and accounting skills.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Demands
- Frequent movement within the store to access various departments, areas, and/or products.
- Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods.
- Frequent lifting.
- Occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders.

- Positions may require confirmation of vaccination in accordance with individual campus requirements.
- Use of face masks throughout the day and while on campus may be expected or required.
