Requirements

Candidates must have a high school diploma or its equivalent and meet one of the following:

• Hold a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential; or
• Hold or be working toward an Associate Degree or higher in birth-through kindergarten, child development, early childhood education, or an early childhood education related field. Teacher assistants working toward the Associate Degree shall make progress by completing a minimum of six semester hours per year.

Special Requirements

Pre-K programs are licensed by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and require an additional Criminal Background Check (CBC). If selected for this position, you must complete the following steps:

• Go to the NCDHHS website and review video tutorials.
• Obtain an NCID (NC Identity Management Service) via this link.
• Begin the CBC application process at this portal. You will need to enter your addresses for the past 5 years. If you have lived out-of-state in the past 5 years, a DHHS representative will email you with instructions for each state’s background check, which may involve additional costs. Print your receipt for reimbursement if hired.
• At the end of the CBC application, pay the $26.50 fee with a credit card (Visa or MasterCard only). Print your receipt for reimbursement if hired.
• Within 7 days of completing the application, get your fingerprints taken via LIVESCAN. Bring a valid ID and $10 cash. Print your receipt for reimbursement if hired. LIVESCAN fingerprinting options:
  • Greensboro Police Department
  • Guilford County Sheriff
  • High Point Police Department
• Once your CBC application and fingerprinting are complete, you will receive an email from the DHHS CBC Portal with your results. Log in with your NCID to view them.
• If cleared, you will receive a letter stating you are QUALIFIED under the NC Child Care Act. Upload this letter to your GCS application before HR approval to begin work.
