About the Role

Support the service center manager in leading employees across all service center functions. Ensure customer satisfaction through timely and proper handling of shipments while applying all applicable administrative support responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships through communication.
  • Ensure daily pre-shift meetings take place with all employees.
  • Assist the service center manager in communicating and aligning the service center’s culture and operating plan with FedEx Freight’s vision and mission to promote organizational change.
  • Lead employees in knowledge and skill development; monitor education activity and mentor involvement.
  • Convey clear expectations and hold employees accountable for achieving goals; apply corrective action when necessary.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working condition of the facility and equipment.
  • Establish and support a center safety committee and their activities.
  • Ensure all security measures are taken to protect employees, freight, equipment, and the facility.
  • Routinely communicate with sales to ensure operations/sales alignment and meet customer needs.
  • Review shipment volume, dock layout, pickup and delivery routes, staffing, equipment utilization, and processes to optimize effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Work with the service center manager to maintain all service center processes as outlined in operations procedures to keep shipments within the designated operating cycle.
  • Lead employees in proper freight handling practices, including claims prevention, hazardous materials, over-short-damage, freight analysis, and use of tools and equipment.
  • Review and monitor production and efficiency measurements as reported in various formats.
  • Involve service center employees in identifying ways to improve operations.
  • Manage and maintain physical assets, supplies, and vendors; work closely with fleet maintenance employees if applicable.
  • Review invoices, controllable cost reports, and financial statements to measure business performance against budget and reduce costs.
  • Work with general office and regional support positions to ensure consistency and compliance in all service center tasks.
  • Communicate routinely with the service center manager to ensure alignment in leadership direction.
  • Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies/procedures.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have one year’s experience in the transportation industry in an operations leadership role or related position.
  • Must be able to travel as needed.
  • Basic written and verbal communication skills (documentation, communication with peers, supervisors, etc.).
  • Strong communication skills (written, oral, and visual).
  • Thorough knowledge of the LTL industry, DOT rules and regulations, OSHA laws, hazardous materials regulations, NMFC and tariff rules, and company policies and procedures (preferred).
  • Able to work in a remote location with self-initiative and minimal supervision.
  • Must be multi-task oriented and possess good organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Internet.
