About the Role
This position oversees the Automations Department, ensuring the artistic integrity and operational excellence of all automation systems for live productions. You will supervise staff, coordinate maintenance and rehearsals, and maintain the highest standards of performance and safety.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and delegate responsibilities to the Automations Department staff as assigned by the Head of Automation.
- Act as the supervisor for the Automations Department in the absence of the Head of Automation.
- Operate and maintain all automation gear within the department’s domain.
- Coordinate the automations crew for maintenance, rehearsals, artist training, and perfecting performance cue tracks.
- Preserve the long-term “opening night” quality and artistic integrity of the production.
- Schedule and train staff as required.
- Be available and flexible for work calls, training, maintenance, and performances.
- Operate the automations control console during performances and train backup technicians as assigned by the Head of Automation.
- Ensure the integrity of automations show movements aligns with the intent of the Artistic Director and designer.
- Coordinate special projects, including research, purchase, and installation of specialty automation-related gear.
- Prioritize and assign maintenance and inspection of automation systems, including stage lifts, line sets, moving scenic elements, hydraulic systems, sky motion, center ceiling, winches, motors, and remote control devices.
- Work closely with the Artistic team and Stage Management to support their needs during training, staging, rehearsals, and performances.
- Ensure equipment and supplies are stocked in sufficient quantities for ongoing production needs.
- Maintain safety procedures for staff, enforcing fall protection protocols, use of personal protective gear, and safe tool handling.
- Keep automation department documentation current, formally recording system and show cue changes, and maintaining logs of all maintenance and inspections.
- Assist in establishing and improving standard operating procedures for the department.
- Ensure regular, respectful, and clear communication with other department heads, stage management, and production management.
- Coordinate administrative needs, including purchasing paperwork, disciplinary matters, vacation requests, daily payroll time sheets, labor and material estimations, and specifications for production management.
- Participate in company-required training classes, such as OSHA 10, Fall Protection, Heart Saver, and Lock out/Tag out.
- Assist with the Load In, Performance, and Load Out of all events in the Treasure Island Show Room / Mystère Theater.
- Participate in emergency procedure training and practices.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Head of Automation.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working in a professional stage Automations Department.
- Experience in live stage performance.
- Experience running an automations department for large-scale productions.
- Proficiency in the installation and repair of automation-related gear.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Computer knowledge, particularly in Internet research, database management, purchasing software, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Professional experience with automations and hydraulic systems, including repairs and installations.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills; self-motivated, highly organized, and able to delegate.
- Adept at coordinating a technical staff for rehearsals, maintenance, and show cues.
- Knowledge of OSHA health and safety protocols is an asset.
- Must be available to work in Las Vegas.
