About the role

The Assistant General Manager oversees and directs all aspects of linen production, ensuring timely delivery to the customer base. This includes managing human resources, equipment, utilities, and raw materials efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Manage employee resources: Recruit, develop, and retain solid performers. Ensure adherence to company policies and legal requirements. Maintain positive relationships with the union. Focus on leadership and development alongside management.
  • Manage equipment resources: Oversee plant maintenance, ensure equipment is maintained at optimal levels through Preventive Maintenance (PMs), and respond quickly to minimize downtime. Manage the fleet and ensure vehicles are appropriately maintained and tagged.
  • Manage Service Function: Keep the service department informed about customer needs. Stay updated on service outcomes and resolve issues promptly to customer satisfaction. Train Route Drivers in both processes and safety.
  • Manage Production Outcomes: Review and analyze departmental results daily, make necessary changes to reach goals, manage inventory appropriately, and produce periodic reports.
  • Serve as a Role Model for Safety: Emphasize safety initiatives, ensure all employees understand safety comes first, and proactively conduct safety training. Work collaboratively with the Safety Coordinator on safety and workers' compensation issues.
  • Exhibit Sound Financial Acumen: Manage the Profit and Loss (P&L) monthly to meet desired goals, explain cost variances monthly or as requested, interpret results effectively to recommend changes or enhancements, and communicate effectively with the Home Office.
  • Communicate Effectively with the Home Office: Be self-sufficient yet willing to seek assistance from the Home Office. Model openness to appropriate assistance from management.
  • Other: Pitch in for any other job as needed to meet production requirements or cover for absences.

Qualifications

  • At least 10 years experience in a production leadership role, preferably in the linen industry.
  • Exceptional leadership skills – able to work with and communicate with all levels of employees.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Solid analytical abilities.
  • Good financial skills.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Consistent and temperate professional demeanor.
  • Prioritize experience in a union environment.
  • Prior experience managing a route force is preferred.
  • A Bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required.
