About the role

The Assistant Director of Engineering partners with the Director of Engineering to lead the Engineering department, ensuring our buildings, mechanical systems, and grounds — including the Golden Peak building across the street — are maintained to the highest standard. This is a hands-on leadership role: you'll supervise and develop a skilled team, oversee preventive maintenance and capital projects, manage vendor relationships, and step in as the acting department leader when the Director is away — including leading the response to after-hours emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Engineering team's daily operations, staff, and budget, acting as Director of Engineering in the Director's absence.
  • Direct, train, schedule, and supervise Engineering staff in line with department and property policies.
  • Resolve guest and owner maintenance requests promptly and professionally, consistent with our luxury service standards.
  • Identify deficiencies, initiate and complete work orders, and perform necessary repairs across guest rooms, condominium units, and common areas.
  • Oversee and execute the property's preventive maintenance program for all mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and life safety equipment.
  • Operate and maintain the Energy Management System (EMS), building automation systems, and Life Safety/Fire Alarm Systems (training provided).
  • Aid in preparing and managing the annual operating and capital budgets, including tracking capital project timelines and costs.
  • Manage contractor and vendor relationships, including bids, scheduling, and invoice accuracy.
  • Lead emergency response and after-hours incident management as the primary point of contact for urgent property issues.
  • Manage project and maintenance schedules across the department, prioritizing work to meet property needs and deadlines.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA, Colorado labor law, ADA, and applicable local building and fire codes.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent; technical or trade school training in HVAC, electrical, or plumbing preferred.
  • Minimum two years of engineering or maintenance experience in a hotel, resort, or luxury residential property.
  • Previous supervisory or lead technician experience strongly preferred.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification preferred, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • EPA Section 608 Certification (Universal preferred) required for handling refrigerants.
  • Ability to read and interpret HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing blueprints and schematics.
  • Availability for a varying schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and after-hours emergency response.
