About the role

The next Associate Vice President & Chief Facilities Officer will lead the long-term planning, development, and stewardship of the university’s physical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Affirms and improves the utilization of existing resources
  • Develops a strategic plan for updating and renovating plant infrastructure
  • Improves overall standards of custodial care and grounds upkeep
  • Strengthening the general facilities safety and maintenance programs
  • Manages the project bidding, contract award and/or negotiation process
  • Ensures compliance with all local, state and federal laws
  • Collaborates with contracted architectural and engineering firms
  • Demonstrates commitment to encouraging supply, construction and service contracts from MBE/WBE firms
  • Communicates and coordinates UAB capital construction projects, equipment purchases and real estate transactions
  • Ensures project delivery process complies with Title 39 (Alabama Code of 1975) and University of Alabama System board rules
  • Interfaces with compliance agencies, planning commissions, including but not limited to, the State of Alabama, Jefferson County and the City of Birmingham
  • Oversees the operations of the chilled water and steam enterprises
  • Develops and implements an innovative campus-wide sustainability program
  • Manages the University’s property leasing program

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering or a related field
  • At least ten (10) years of related experience
  • Facilities-related professional registrations preferred

Qualifications

  • Strong leadership skills
  • Experience in facility management and real estate
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders
  • Experience in sustainability initiatives
