About the role

The Organization Human Services Association (HSA) is a private nonprofit agency dedicated to providing families with compassionate and comprehensive care to promote wellness and build strong communities. HSA was founded in Bell Gardens in 1940 and today serves over 20,000 clients annually on a non-sectarian basis with a range of services addressing the unique and shared needs of clients of all ages.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement activities focusing on school readiness goals using High/Scope Curriculum.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for families and staff, communicating in a respectful and culturally sensitive manner.
  • Supervise and coordinate curriculum activities for assigned children.
  • Assist in developing lesson plans and learning goals.
  • Record observations for children's assessments utilizing Learning Genie.
  • Foster a collaborative learning environment using Conscious Discipline.
  • Encourage experimentation, exploration, problem solving, cooperation, socialization, and choice making.
  • Conduct and coordinate small and large group activities.
  • Follow a consistent schedule including group experiences, choice time, music, motor activities, meals, and transitions.
  • Participate in the fire, earthquake, and lockdown drills.
  • Provide ongoing supervision of indoor and outdoor play areas (sight & sound at all times).
  • Arrange and supervise educational activities indoors and outdoors, including mealtimes.
  • Follow consistent schedules with varied learning experiences.
  • Assist children with physical and emotional needs and overall development.
  • Ensure classroom environments meet health and safety standards and are clean and sanitized.
  • Assist with toileting needs, including changing pull-ups and cleaning soiled items.
  • Conduct daily health checks and document findings as needed.
  • Ensure health and safety of all children and parents.
  • Work with Disabilities staff to support children with IFSP/IEP needs.
  • Assist children with physical, emotional needs, and overall development.
  • Work with Disabilities staff to support children with IFSP/IEP needs.
  • Record observations for children’s assessments.
  • Track student progress and intervene as necessary.
  • Communicate with children, families, and staff in a respectful and culturally sensitive manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality of children, families, and employees.
  • Represent HSA at community and professional functions.
  • Participate in at least 1 recruitment/community events (may include nights/weekends).
  • Aid in paperwork: lesson plans, observations, meal counts, health/safety checks.
  • Maintain daily records and track student progress.
  • Complete meal counts and implement nutrition/health activities.
  • Identify and report suspected child abuse (Mandated Reporter Guidelines).
  • Maintain confidentiality of children, families, and staff.
  • Report to work on time and maintain good attendance.
  • Participate positively in all program activities.

Qualifications

  • Possess or meet requirements for Associate Teacher Permit or higher.
  • Occasional driving is required. Must provide own vehicle, valid California driver license, and proof of full insurance coverage.
  • Must provide First Aid certification, Child CPR certification, Physical Negative tuberculosis screen, TDAP or DTAP clearance, and MMR Clearance.

Skills

  • Knowledge and experience working with Head Start Performance Standards, Title V, Title 22, CACFP Regulations and other State and Federal Regulations.
  • Experience with licensing requirements and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of child growth and development.
  • Ability to organize priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Mediation, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Benefits

Compensation In accordance with California law, the expected pay range for this position is posted with this position. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.

Pay

$23.00 - $25.00 per hour

Schedule

Full-time - Non-exempt
