Associate Systems Packaging Engineer
About the role
The Associate Systems Packaging Engineer supports the engineering team with 3D modeling system layouts, proposal design solutions, and customer negotiations that influence Size, Weight, and Power. The role involves engaging with customers and sales personnel, contributing to the development of new products, preparing successful proposal designs and concepts, and validating conceptual problem solutions.
Responsibilities
- Support the engineering team with 3D modeling system layouts, proposal design solutions, and customer negotiations that influence Size, Weight, and Power.
- Engage with team of creative, independent individuals.
- Contribute to the development of new products through consulting with customers and sales personnel.
- Provide critical early layout models for our customers.
- Consult on new product and market development efforts.
- Prepare successful proposal designs and concepts, along with cost and schedule estimates.
- Validate conceptual problem solutions by performing trade studies and analyses.
- Contribute to the analysis, conceptual design, development, and test of complex control hardware used on military/space vehicles and equipment.
- Determine the customer’s needs, system architecture based on component layouts, analysis approaches and project management processes (cost and schedule).
- Support subsections of the overall system engineering responsibilities.
- Occasionally work for extended periods on-site with our customers.
- Engage in requirements creation and conceptual validation early in programs.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical/Electrical/Aerospace Engineering with 0-3 years design/drafting experience.
- Demonstrated ability in packaging electrical and mechanical components, assemblies, connectors, and cables, including design, integration, and validation in environments including avionics or space.
- Able to complete drawings including tolerance stacks and tolerancing for manufacturing.
- Engineering fundamentals with the ability to understand and guide analyses and offer solutions related to mechanical, electro-mechanical, and opto-mechanical systems.
- Demonstrated CAD proficiency (NX, Pro-E, Solidworks).
- Familiarity with packaging electrical components, mechanical components, and sizing torque.
- Knowledge to contribute and lead design for assembly/manufacturing discussions with the team.
Qualifications
- Ability to travel 10%.
- Understanding of assembly and test methods if critical for early requirements definition and proposed solutions.
- Experience in understanding and guiding analyses and offering solutions related to mechanical, electro-mechanical, and opto-mechanical systems.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to obtain a DoD Contractor Security Clearance; currently holding a clearance is preferred.

- Strong CAD proficiency (NX, Pro-E, Solidworks).
- Experience with packaging electrical and mechanical components.
- Understanding of assembly and test methods.
- Ability to perform trade studies and analyses.
- Experience with thermal, structural, and dynamic analysis.

Pay
Huntsville, AL: $60,000.00–$110,000.00 Annually
