Associate Structural Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking an Associate Structural Engineer to join our Federal Engineering and Design Team. In this role, you will assist with structural design efforts for federal projects, including building frameworks, foundations, and structural systems. You’ll collaborate closely with experienced engineers and designers, gaining exposure to federal standards such as UFC, DoD, and VA requirements, while strengthening your skills in structural analysis and modeling software. This position offers hands-on experience and the opportunity to contribute to impactful projects within Olsson’s federal portfolio.
Key responsibilities
- Provides structural design elements for federal engineering projects using fundamental knowledge of structural principles, standard techniques, and established methods for small to mid-sized projects.
- Performs basic structural plan production and receives instructions for necessary tasks, including drafting and detailing structural components.
- Develops and applies knowledge and experience working within structural design and modeling software, such as Revit, Risa, and other structural analysis tools.
- Affixes to project schedules, engineering calculations, and preparation of construction documents.
- Collaborates with experienced structural engineers and designers on non-routine techniques and procedures to ensure compliance with codes and standards.
- Gathers research, recommends solutions, and creates drafts of technical reports.
- Mentors student interns by providing opportunities for developing basic structural engineering skills and knowledge.
- May travel and work in various terrains and weather conditions at project sites in different stages of construction.

Qualifications

- Preferred qualifications:
- A minimum of one year of engineering experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil or architectural engineering or a related engineering field.
- Possesses Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to contribute and work well with a team.
- Solid interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrates the ability to diligently research applicable structural codes, standards, and regulations.
- Knowledge in structural engineering technologies, such as Revit and structural analysis softwares.
- Willingness to travel and work in field conditions as needed.
