About the role

This position performs moderately complex structural engineering work to support the maintenance and operations (M&O) of architectural and engineering projects, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local agency guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, analyzes, and reviews design plans, specifications, estimates, and reports.
  • Performs contract administration by reviewing structural services provided by engineering consultants and architects; makes revisions and recommendations.
  • Develops structural design plans, specifications, quality assurance plans, conceptual and detailed cost estimates, and other necessary reports for construction, maintenance, and operation of various structures (concrete, structural steel, timber, masonry, metal, etc.).
  • Assists in reviewing project status, initiating changes, and providing guidance to structural designers and other engineering staff.
  • Reviews structural plans, specifications, design calculations, and cost requirements for alternate construction methods.
  • Evaluates completed structural work for conformance to recognized standards, constructability, completeness, and accuracy.
  • Assists in designing and laying out foundation, floor, wall, and roof framing plans for major building structures.
  • Provides recommendations to contractors, architects, engineers, and construction inspectors on structural issues during construction.
  • Analyzes environmental impact reports, negative declarations, and soils test data to recommend foundation designs.
  • Prepares feasibility reports and preliminary designs for proposed structures and facilities.
  • Conducts site investigations and prepares scoping reports and recommendations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of full-time, paid professional structural engineering experience; emphasis on school building construction preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in structural engineering or civil engineering with a specialization in structural engineering courses.
  • Certification as a Professional Engineer (PE) recognized by the State of California Board of Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists is preferred.

Pay

This salaried/exempt role offers a base annual salary range of $134,700.00 - $144,700.00, commensurate with skill, education, experience, and work location. Eligible for a bonus after 6 months of employment.
