About the role

The Human Health & Performance Systems Group develops human-centered technologies to overcome operational challenges and enhance human capability in national security domains. The group focuses on integrated wearable systems, human-machine teaming, enhanced communications, neurocognitive analytics, and medical technologies. It is highly interdisciplinary, with experts in physiology, cognitive science, neuroscience, psychology, biomechanics, computer science, engineering, and physics, and core competencies in system-level modeling, gap analysis, advanced sensing, signal processing, machine learning, AI, computational modeling, hardware/software prototyping, model-based systems engineering, and human data collection in lab and field settings.

Responsibilities

  • Support systems engineering efforts across a broad range of technology areas to address stakeholder needs and further the group’s human health & performance mission.
  • Model and integrate medical technologies to support advanced field‑forward care concepts.
  • Develop system architecture for human physiological, cognitive, and psychological performance monitoring systems for specific mission scenarios.
  • Develop models and simulations in coordination with stakeholder communities to incorporate operational constraints, requirements, and concepts of operation.
  • Support design, prototyping, integration, and field testing of prototype health & performance systems.
  • Develop, flow down, and track requirements; architect systems; specify interfaces; plan and lead verification and validation activities; identify risks and define risk mitigation strategies.
  • Apply Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to traditional system engineering processes and system analysis problems.

Requirements

  • M.S. in Physics, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Biomedical Engineering, or related scientific field, or equivalent experience in systems engineering.
  • In lieu of an M.S., a bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of directly related experience will be considered.
  • Demonstrated skills in scientific writing and/or development and presentation of technical materials to varied audiences, including the ability to clearly present concepts to a wide spectrum of audiences.
  • Ability to scope and support the necessary systems engineering activities for multiple types of prototype and R&D programs.
  • Ability to use systems perspective and systems analysis techniques to identify mission‑critical human health and performance gaps and areas of needed technology development.
  • Demonstrated experience with Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools is strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret level DoD security clearance (subject to pre‑employment background investigation).

Benefits

  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision plans
  • MIT‑funded pension
  • Matching 401K
  • Paid leave (including vacation, sick, parental, military, etc.)
  • Tuition reimbursement and continuing education programs
  • Mentorship programs
  • Range of work‑life balance options
  • Additional voluntary benefits, discounts, and perks available to MIT employees
