Associate Special Effects Designer

About the Role & Team

The Walt Disney Imagineering team is dedicated to creating immersive experiences, memorable destinations, and innovative entertainment for families worldwide. Imagineers blend storytelling, art, science, and technology to bring unique projects to life. This position is responsible for assisting with mock-ups, design, production, installation, testing, and turnover of special effects deliverables.

What You Will Do

• Support the project team in scope development from concept stage through project close-out
• Assist with design and delivery of all required feasibility mock-ups
• Interface with all integrated disciplines to ensure internal/external requirements are met
• Field installation support
• Aid in overall documentation of mock-ups, design decisions, etc.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Ability to support mock-ups and design development for special effects leads
• Ability to assist in production activities, install support, and troubleshoot special effects equipment
• Basic knowledge of installed Disney theme park attractions from a technical and aesthetic show perspective
• Basic knowledge of Entertainment related technical disciplines and their application to special effects
• Basic understanding of fabrication principles and processes
• Must be able to travel to domestic and international sites for up to 6 weeks at a time

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

• Industrial design, manufacturing, operations and maintenance background with special effects and projection system design experience
• Strong communication skills across all mediums of special effects staff and work with all related parties to ensure the technical and creative aspects of the show are achieved successfully
• Curiosity, problem-solving, and a desire to learn special effects techniques, with a demonstrated ability to adhere to tasks based on assignments from special effects leads
• CAD familiarity
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in relevant field
• Theatrical training is desirable

This position can be based in Anaheim, CA or Orlando, FL. The hiring range/pay rate for the Associate Special Effects Designer is $75,700.00 - $106,400.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
