Associate Software Development Engineer (Remote US)

About the role

We are building our next-generation cloud notebook application. As an Associate Backend Software Engineer on the Signals Software team, you will focus on back-end design and development, helping turn marketing requirements into an easy-to-use and elegant application designed for the scientific community. Join an international team of talented engineers, designers, and product managers to deliver amazing, high-impact, customer-focused features.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with fellow team members on priorities, specifications, and feature implementation
• Craft well-documented, clean, and tested code
• Create secure, performant interfaces and services
• Build and maintain new, high-impact functionality into Signals Notebook
• Work with cloud services and technologies

Requirements

• 1-3 years of professional work experience
• 1+ years of Java programming skills
• 1-3 years' experience with Reactive Programming (Vert.x)
• 1+ years building Web Services and RESTful APIs
• 1+ year experience using AI-powered developer tools and productivity suites on a daily basis (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT, or similar AI assistant)

• Bachelor's Degree
• Thorough understanding of structured software development methodologies (design, development, and testing in an Agile environment)
• Strong teamwork orientation and ability to foster collaboration within and across teams
• Excellent work ethic and strong sense of ownership of end results
• Entrepreneurial mindset, creative problem-solving, and innovative thinking
• Exposure to CI/CD (Jenkins, GitHub)
• Experience working with JDBC in a transactional application (preferably PostgreSQL)
• Awareness of performance implications of different queries and inserts/updates

Schedule

This position operates on EST working hours. Remote US candidates only. Candidates must be able to interview in-person at our headquarters in Waltham, MA, USA.

Pay

The base salary range for this full-time position is $74,000 - $95,000. The final offer will consider internal equity, work location, and factors such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. This range does not include bonuses, equity, or other benefits.
