Associate, Single Family Residential

About the role

The Associate will join the Single Family Residential team responsible for acquisitions, asset management, and dispositions in the single family residential sector.

Responsibilities

• Underwriting and due diligence of new investment opportunities;
• Generating property and portfolio valuations and return analyses;
• Conducting portfolio assessments/financial analysis and making recommendations based on results;
• Partnering across functions including acquisitions, property management, portfolio management, joint venture partners, debt financings and accounting to drive the investment performance of Starwood’s SFR investments;
• Monitoring business plan performance and adjusting go-forward strategy based on market conditions;
• Developing internal data infrastructure and dashboard tools;
• Creating financial models;
• Working with internal and external teams to implement process improvements that create additional value;
• Providing assistance to key internal team members by answering questions and helping with requests as needed;
• Performing a number of functions regularly, including reporting on the SFR investments on an ongoing basis and handling complex debt facilities.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of relevant experience in real estate acquisitions, asset management, strategy/operations;
• Strong communication skills (both written and oral);
• Development and/or real estate cash flow modeling experience;
• Strong quantitative and technical/computer skills (including strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel & PowerPoint);
• A true self-starter capable of accomplishing complicated tasks with limited supervision;
• Bachelor’s degree in real estate, finance, business or related area and/or an MBA in real estate or finance.
