Associate Scientist, HTP Aerosol and Flavor Analytics

About the role

This position contributes to aerosol extraction and flavor analytics testing under direct supervision within the insourced laboratory team as part of an End-to-End (E2E) Laboratory Modernization Program. The role operates within an ISO 17025 accredited analytical production laboratory at a client site.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out aerosol extraction on aerosolization machines under direct supervision.
  • Collect aerosol on pads or impingers; prepare samples for downstream chemical analysis.
  • Perform sample preparation duties including weighing, digesting, shaking, and dissolving.
  • Perform routine instrument and machine maintenance.
  • Record and report data; maintain laboratory notebooks and LIMS entries.
  • Follow established methods, SOPs, and work instructions.
  • Maintain training and compliance in areas of health and safety, security, environmental, and operational aspects of daily activities in the working environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, or related scientific discipline with 0–2 years of relevant experience.
  • OR Associate degree with 2+ years of relevant laboratory experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively under close to direct supervision in a regulated laboratory environment.
  • Adaptable, self-motivated, and capable of following detailed instructions and completing routine tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience with aerosol generation/collection equipment and flavor analytics methods.
  • Knowledge of cheminformatics tools or structure-activity relationship analysis.
  • Experience working within an ISO 17025–accredited or GLP-compliant laboratory environment.
  • Familiarity with smoke/aerosol chemistry, consumer product analytical testing, or regulated product testing.
  • Experience supporting regulatory submissions or equivalent regulated product filings.
  • Proficiency with LIMS and electronic data management systems.

Skills

  • Hands-on expertise with aerosolization equipment and flavor analytics methods.
  • Sample throughput scheduling and production workflow management.
  • Understanding of CAPA and quality systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality documentation.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Working Environment

  • Must be able to work in a laboratory, controlled environments requiring personal protective equipment (e.g., lab coat, safety glasses).
  • Job pace may be fast and job completion demands may be high.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position more than 25% of the time.
  • Occasionally move between labs, corridors, adjoining rooms, and buildings onsite.
  • Frequently operate instruments, objects, tools, or controls, requiring regular bending, squatting, stretching, and reaching.
  • Occasionally move or lift up to 25 pounds (potential for occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds).
  • Specific vision abilities required include close-range distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Occasionally operates a computer and other office machinery (e.g., calculator, copy machine, printer).
  • May be required to handle hazardous waste according to local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Duties may include identifying, handling, generating, accumulating, storing, and labeling hazardous waste.
  • Potential exposure to lab-based hazards including extreme temperature, biological materials, and hazardous chemicals.
  • May require Medical Clearance, Respiratory Protection Training, and Fit Testing to wear a respirator as protection against hazards present in the laboratory environment.

Pay

The annual compensation range for this full-time position is $55,000 to $75,000. The final base pay offered will be determined by factors including internal equity, work location, and individual qualifications such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
