About the Role

This role supports Research & Development activities across the Meals and Beverages division. You will execute projects spanning the Thermal/Frozen Soup & Broth, Meals & Sauces, and Beverage portfolios, including brand maintenance, product improvement, cost improvement, and new product development. The scope covers the entire Product Development process from idea conception through plant commercialization.

Responsibilities

  • Execute work plans for projects of low to moderate complexity and technical risk.
  • Demonstrate organizational and planning skills to proactively progress work and meet deliverables.
  • Assist with the development and execution of project timelines, including contingency planning.
  • Leverage vendor capabilities to expand formulation possibilities and increase speed to market.
  • Develop prototypes to support concept work and exploratory ideation, refining them based on consumer feedback.
  • Work on the bench and pilot plant line to assess initial feasibility of new products and conduct ingredient screenings.
  • Conduct trials in the Pilot Plant and/or manufacturing facilities to evaluate manufacturing capability and consumer acceptability.
  • Incorporate nutritional and cost parameters into product design.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and agility by adapting quickly to changes in direction.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to advance projects.
  • Lead cross-functional tastings with business partners and stakeholders.
  • Communicate plans, results, and project risks to managers, stakeholders, and senior functional staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Food Science or related field.
  • Minimum of 6 months of food product development experience (relevant internships, Co-Op programs, or contractor roles count).
  • Demonstrated skills in commercializing products on the bench and/or in manufacturing environments.
  • Creative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to evaluate food products across plant and animal-based items, with accommodations available for medical, religious, or dietary needs.
  • Ability to work with ambiguity and seek creative solutions.
  • Strong capability in synthesizing data, interpreting results, and providing recommendations.
  • Proficiency in lab practices, test methods, material preparation, and batch assessment.
  • Inclination to work in a team environment.
  • Strong planning and organizing skills.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of consumer testing methodologies.
  • Computer skills, including fluency in Microsoft Office.

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid working environment from Camden-based office, with ~20-30% expected travel to manufacturing locations.
  • Exposure to thermal production environments, including heat, hot food products, coolers, and freezers, requiring personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to walk/stand for up to ¾ of the workday.
  • Physical ability to handle weights of up to approximately forty pounds.
  • Handling allergens (dairy, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, wheat, eggs, etc.) and chemicals while wearing appropriate PPE.
  • Willingness and ability to taste and evaluate a wide range of food products and ingredients.

Pay

The target base salary range for this full-time, salaried position is between $61,200–$84,200. Individual base pay depends on work location, experience, job-related skills, and relevant education or training. Total pay may include other forms of compensation.
