Associate ROCC Operator
About the Role
The Associate ROCC Operator is an entry-level role within the Renewable Operations Control Center (ROCC), designed for individuals eager to start a career in renewable energy operations. This position combines the core responsibilities of a Restoration Technician with foundational Engineering Operator tasks, focusing on real-time monitoring, troubleshooting, and restoration of renewable generation assets. Key Responsibilities
- Monitor renewable generation assets (wind, solar, battery storage) using SCADA and other control platforms.
- Respond promptly to alarms and alerts to maintain system reliability and compliance.
- Execute restoration procedures for renewable assets following outages or abnormal conditions.
- Assist in diagnosing and resolving operational issues under guidance from senior operators.
- Maintain accurate logs of operational activities and restoration events.
- Ensure adherence to NERC and internal regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with field technicians, engineering teams, and market operations during restoration and troubleshooting activities.
- Communicate effectively across teams to support safe and reliable operations.
- Ensure renewable generation assets operate in accordance with safety and compliance requirements.
- Maximize availability, reliability, and revenue through alarm monitoring and response.
- Coordinate market participation with internal and external schedulers, marketers, transmission operators, and balancing authorities.
- Respond to, troubleshoot and recover from off-normal events related to substation protection and operation.
- Manage initial emergency response for safety, cyber, and environmental events.
- Plan outages and execute high voltage switching orders to support equipment maintenance.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Grad / GED or Associate's degree in a technical field (preferred).
- 0–2 years of experience in power generation, renewable energy, or related technical field (internships or coursework acceptable).
- Basic understanding of electrical systems and safety practices.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- Familiarity with SCADA systems and renewable energy technologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
