Associate, Reservoir Engineer - Global Investment Banking / Energy (Houston)
About the role
Contributes to the overall success of the Domestic and International A&D Technical team within the Global Investment Banking – Energy Division located in Houston, TX USA. Ensures specific individual goals, plans, and initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Engineering support role for Houston Domestic and International A&D team, focused on execution of upstream and midstream oil and gas pitches, live mandates and ad hoc technical requests
- Responsible for accuracy and timely delivery of data analysis and ARIES/PHDwin database work related to advisory mandates
- No budgeting responsibilities
- No signing authority
- Develop and integrate technical inputs into valuation and economic models to support investment decisions across North American and International basins
- Analyze key engineering and geological drivers, including PDP forecasting, type curve development and inventory delineation (base vs. upside)
- Build, run and sensitize technical inputs that feed economic models; manage and maintain technical and economic databases (e.g., ARIES, PHDWin, ComboCurve) and provide timely and accurate outputs to senior Technical and Corporate Finance colleagues
- Support ad hoc analysis and requests by pulling third party (Enverus, Wood Mackenzie, Welligence) data using Spotfire or other proprietary tools to assist with evaluations and any related client / senior banker request
- Continuously develop new tools that enhance database related efficiency and accuracy
- Provide colleagues / customers with troubleshooting issues and closing any knowledge gaps with engineering database management software
- Contribute to engineering portions of Management Presentations and pitch materials, including assisting with slide preparation and engineering analysis with senior engineering oversight
- Maintain working knowledge of oil and gas industry technical trends (e.g. completion strategies and performance trends at operator and basin levels), commodity prices, and latest developments in technology using public and proprietary data
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk

Requirements
University/College degree in Petroleum Engineering
~10 years of experience working in oil and gas engineering related roles
Expert knowledge of ARIES and/or PHDwin is a requirement
Strong knowledge of third-party support products (e.g. Enverus Prism, Wood Mackenzie Welligence)
Beneficial to have exposure to oil and gas acquisitions and divestiture activity in a prior role
Exposure to economic evaluation (net present value), fiscal regimes, SEC Reserves
Proven ability to work concurrently across multiple tasks / activities primarily related to oil and gas asset / corporate evaluations
Strong computer skills including Microsoft office products and technical oil and gas software
