About the role

Regent University’s School of Communication and the Arts invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Associate Professor of Communication in the Department of Journalism and Communication Studies. Tenure at appointment may be available for candidates who qualify. This faculty member will teach across the curriculum, with a special focus on graduate communication studies courses, and will coordinate the PhD program in partnership with the department chair and dean.

Responsibilities

  • Teach graduate- and undergraduate-level courses in communication studies
  • Coordinate and lead the PhD program in partnership with the department chair and dean
  • Supervise doctoral and master’s theses/dissertations as part of the assigned workload
  • Engage in an active research program aligned with current disciplinary conversations
  • Demonstrate facility with online instructional technology and teach in both online and residential formats

Requirements

  • PhD in communication or a related field by the start date
  • Established record of peer-reviewed scholarship
  • Evidence of successful direction of doctoral and master’s students
  • Readiness to coordinate the PhD program, including relevant curricular or administrative experience
  • Willingness to embrace the School and University Identity and Mission statements and subscribe to a statement of Christian faith

Qualifications

  • Active research program engaged with current conversations in the discipline (social-scientific, computational, qualitative, or critical methods)
  • Demonstrated capacity to teach and serve across the curriculum
  • Experience directing theses or dissertations

Pay

The salary range for this position is $80,000 to $89,000 annually. Salary within this range is commensurate with academic experience, a record of scholarship adjudicated in juried forums, and demonstrated capacity to teach and serve across the curriculum.

Work Location: Virginia Beach, VA

Appointment will begin July 1, 2027.
