The George W. Daverio School of Accountancy in the College of Business at The University of Akron invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment in Accounting at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, starting in August 2027.

About the role

The tenured/tenure-track teaching faculty generally have a full range of responsibilities, including teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, research, scholarship, and service to the department, the university, and the public. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a balanced commitment to excellence in teaching, quality research, and service.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Accounting
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of the Accounting curriculum
  • Participate in departmental, college, and university committees and activities
  • Engage in scholarly activity and publish research findings
  • Provide service to the profession and community

Requirements

  • PhD/DBA or equivalent in accounting or a related area from an AACSB accredited institution
  • SJD/JSD in taxation from an ABA accredited institution, J.D. (or equivalent)/MTax from an ABA accredited institution, or a PhD/DBA in a related area with professional certification in accounting
  • Preference will be given to candidates who are professionally certified (e.g., CPA, CIA, CMA) and have professional experience in tax consulting, public accounting, or relevant industry experience
  • Candidates with AI skills, including the ability to incorporate AI and information technology tools into teaching and curriculum development, are a plus

Subject to Collective Bargaining Agreement Requirements

The compensation for this position is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
