Provide leadership to the Production Coding Department and Charge Entry team, including supervision of staff, process review, and operational improvement recommendations. Goal is to meet or exceed national coding KPI benchmarks and client-specific KPIs while maintaining or exceeding team productivity and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and direct overall operations of the Production Coding Department and Charge Entry team as it relates to billing, payer, and client policies and protocols.
  • Ensure all client coding is completed within timelines both onshore and offshore.
  • Oversee the coding of all client services to ensure accuracy and timeliness with our co-source.
  • Ensure the team stays current with billing and coding regulations.
  • Monitor and direct charge entry staff to maintain current status, ensuring quality and quantity standards are met.
  • Ensure work queues are worked timely and accurately.
  • Trend coding denials and provide written feedback by practice on areas of improvement.
  • Actively engage with and manage the coding team, including routine productivity and quality reviews.
  • Provide management and supervisory duties related to educating, training, evaluating staff performance, and monitoring productivity.
  • Interview, hire, train, evaluate, and develop subordinate staff, where applicable.
  • Develop and maintain quality control programs, including in-depth and individual performance reviews.
  • Orient new hires and provide in-services, training, continuing education, and development related to functional areas of responsibility.
  • Use, protect, and disclose patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CPC certification.
  • 5+ years’ experience managing and leading a physician business office or professional services coding department.
  • Ability to work well individually and in a team environment.
  • Must be reliable, responsible, goal-oriented, and flexible.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • High degree of integrity, including the ability to handle sensitive or confidential information.
  • Ability to exhibit poise, composure, and confidence in high-pressure situations.

Working Conditions

  • Occasional travel to client locations.
  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to move around the work area; sit; perform manual tasks; operate tools and other office equipment such as computers, peripherals, and telephones; extend arms; kneel; talk and hear.
  • Mental Demands: The employee must be able to follow directions, collaborate with others, and handle stress.
  • Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
