Elekta produces state-of-the-art high-tech medical equipment including conventional and MRI-guided medical linear accelerators for the treatment of cancer, the Gamma Knife (the gold standard for treating neurological disorders using ionizing radiation), and treatment planning systems. The primary role of an Elekta Operational Physicist is to provide clinical customer support and training to clinical medical physicists across the range of Elekta products, with a focus on conventional linear accelerators, treatment planning systems, and adaptive workflow systems. Additional responsibilities include development of training materials, creation of internal procedures, and support of internal departments and customer operations.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with customers/prospects in a professional, timely manner while providing support and training across Elekta products.
  • Assist in the implementation, commissioning, and validation of Elekta product installation as required.
  • Assist in the development of physics education and training curriculum.
  • Provide support to physicists for in-house and on-site physics training courses.
  • Provide input, support, and validation to product development groups for current projects and new product enhancements.
  • Provide technical assistance and clinical advice to the engineering department for escalated issues, and support verification testing as required.
  • Provide support to marketing and sales functions to demonstrate and present products at various events.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested by department manager.
  • Incorporate Elekta Values into all departmental functions and responsibilities.

Requirements

  • At least a Master’s degree in Physics – PhD in Medical Physics is preferred.
  • Experience in beam data measurement, treatment planning system commissioning, performing treatment planning, and quality assurance is preferred.
  • Experience with inverse planning for IMRT/VMAT, hybrid plan evaluation in phantom, and other forms of dosimetry quality assurance is preferred.
  • Experience with stereotactic treatment planning for neurosurgery (LGK or linear accelerator) or for extra-cranial techniques is preferred.
  • Familiarity with modern 3D water phantom acquisition and analysis products (e.g., Scanditronix-Wellhoefer Blue Phantom with OmniPro Accept, or other) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with current dosimetry protocols including AAPM, ICRU, and IAEA.
  • Familiarity with IGRT protocols and technical requirements.
  • Experience with Python/Matlab preferred.
  • Experience with modern 3D treatment planning systems and understanding of current dose calculation algorithms.
  • Use of Microsoft 365 tools for documentation and data analysis.
