About the role
This position is responsible for providing operational and technical support for refinery Operational Technology (OT) server and/or network environments. The successful candidate must understand business requirements and translate these requirements into solutions while working as part of a team. The position must work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary workgroups to seek solutions to problems and champion compliance and change efforts which result in improved reliability and security of infrastructure services. It is expected that the candidate will always follow the refinery personnel safety requirements.
Responsibilities
- Performs routine operating system, network, and hardware preventative maintenance and performance tests based on hardware, network, and process control vendor operating system practices, to ensure uninterrupted and optimum system performance.
- Performs and collaborates with the process Owner on root cause analysis of simple problems and tracks and reports to manager; works with Engineers and/or Operations to resolve issues.
- Provides basic technical support for hardware, applications, network, and systems administration.
- Assists in resolving basic hardware and software issues, system procedures, transactions, and system downtime; collaborates with Process Engineers to troubleshoot and restore services.
- Follows predefined procedures for system tuning and optimization using IT Service Management practices, best-in-class recommendations, and operating procedures.
- Generates and maintains performance and utilization metrics for infrastructure systems; prepares regular reports on system and network performance and capacity; identifies potential solutions to issues identified in reports.
- Participates in the design and configuration of hardware, network, and software systems based on predefined guidelines and specifications; follows established procedures to ensure proper configuration and integration of hardware, network, and software components.
- Contributes to the knowledge base by documenting solutions to common hardware and software issues; shares learnings and best practices with team members through internal communication channels.
- Works closely with the business and development teams to gain an understanding of business partners’ functional and non-functional requirements, provide feedback, and communicate changes; assists in the definition of business processes to measure, analyze, improve and control the process being reviewed.
- Maintains complex infrastructure that includes traditional IT assets as well as industrial control system devices such as Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, related field or equivalent experience.
- Zero (0) to two (2) years of relevant experience required.
