Associate News Editor, TravelAge West
About the role
TravelAge West is a travel trade publication at the center of the travel advisor community, providing today’s modern advisors with tools to make their business better, from industry research and professional development to immersive storytelling and first-person reviews. A trusted brand for more than 50 years, TravelAge West produces the annual WAVE Awards Gala, the Future Leaders in Travel event, the Napa Valley Leadership Forum and the Trendsetter Awards. We host the award-winning Humans of Travel podcast.
Responsibilities
- Overseeing TravelAge West’s digital news output and writing and editing daily quick-turnaround news pieces
- Reporting and writing weekly features
- Contributing to the monthly print cycle, including managing sections and editing
- Assigning, editing and collaborating with freelance writers
- Social media support
- Marketing initiatives, awards programs and live events support
- Representing and upholding the TravelAge West brand in all interactions with industry partners, sources and colleagues
- Building relationships across the travel industry
- Backing up the team wherever needed
Required Knowledge, Skills And Experience
- 2-3 years of editorial experience (magazine, newspaper or digital)
- Exceptional writing and editing chops with a diversity of clips (news writing, features and interviews)
- Familiarity with AP style
- The ability to juggle deadlines and work ahead
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- A team player with strong initiative who can manage projects independently
- A four-year degree (English, Journalism or Literature preferred)
- Hybrid role based in Los Angeles with a minimum of one day per week in Century City office required
