Associate Mechanical Engineer - Nuclear Power

About the role

The Role: Black & Veatch is seeking a highly motivated Midlevel Mechanical Engineer to support the design of mechanical systems supporting Nuclear Power Generation.

Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with various design engineering execution teams across the US and abroad
• Perform all aspects of mechanical system design engineering and analysis for assigned systems of responsibility
• Acquire knowledge of both Black & Veatch and industry standards and implement them in project development
• Prepare moderately complex engineering deliverables, conduct research, and develop project design recommendations

Requirements

• Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from a recognized accredited program or equivalent experience
• Minimum of 5 years related work experience
• Active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) requirements for BV projects in applicable countries

Qualifications

• Experience in most of the following areas: Instrument and/or Service Air Systems, Demineralized (DM) water supply and make up systems, Service and potable water supply system, Natural, hydrogen, and nitrogen gas Supply System, Closed cycle cooling water system, High Pressure / Intermediate Pressure / Low / Auxiliary Steam system, Feedwater and condensate systems, CO2 Supply System, Calculations which include pipe sizing calculations, pipe thickness calculations, pump sizing calculation, control valve sizing calculations, heat exchanger sizing, atm. tank sizing etc., P&ID development, Air, gas, water & steam systems

Skills

• Knowledge of departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and B&Veatch policies and procedures
• Ability to comply with B&Veatch quality program relative to assigned tasks
• Ability to support continuous improvement and change management efforts
• Ability to prepare a variety of increasingly complex engineering deliverables
• Ability to perform research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection
• Ability to collect, assimilate, and manage data for engineering work
• Ability to prepare increasingly complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles
• Understanding and adherence to budget, schedule, and quality requirements
• Recognition and resolution of problems within assigned area
• Assignment of tasks to develop entry level professionals and interns
• Coordination with project leadership and other internal/external team members on less complex projects
• Interaction with other disciplines on details of design work
• Understanding and interaction with external client's interest and drivers
• Supporting business development or pursuit activities
• Sharing current knowledge of latest technology and processes
• Assistance with performance management process, recognition, and any corrective actions required
• Mentoring entry level professionals and interns

Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.
