Associate Java Developer
Position Summary
We are seeking an Associate Developer to support software development, sustainment, and modernization efforts for systems supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This role is ideal for an early-career software developer who is eager to learn enterprise application development and work within a complex federal healthcare environment.
Responsibilities
- Support development, testing, and maintenance of enterprise Java applications
- Aid in analysis and remediation of software defects and production issues
- Assist with enhancements to legacy applications utilizing Java, Spring Framework, Struts, JSP, WebLogic, Oracle, and related technologies
- Develop and maintain REST and SOAP-based integrations
- Support database development activities involving Oracle databases and SQL queries
- Participate in modernization efforts utilizing Java 17, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservices
- Collaborate with developers, testers, product owners, and stakeholders
- Create and maintain technical documentation
- Support code reviews, testing activities, and deployment processes
- Learn and apply software engineering best practices, coding standards, and security requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 1–3 years of software development experience
- Experience with Java development
- Familiarity with SQL and relational databases
- Familiarity with web services, REST APIs, or application integrations
- Understanding of object-oriented programming concepts
- Experience working within Agile development environments
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Spring Framework or Spring Boot
- Familiarity with Oracle databases
- Familiarity with Git version control
- Familiarity with JavaScript, HTML, and web application development
- Experience supporting federal or healthcare systems
- Exposure to React or modern front-end frameworks
Working Conditions
Standard Business hours are Monday through Friday. Occasional extended or weekend hours may be required based on operational needs. Must have reliable internet service that allows for effective telecommuting.
Pay Range
The base salary range for this position is $90,000 to $100,000 annually, depending on geographic work location, relevant experience, skills, education, internal equity, security clearance, and contract requirements. Geographic salary ranges are determined in accordance with the company's compensation practices and represent a good-faith estimate of the compensation for this position at the time of posting.
