Associate Instructional Assistant, Nursing

Job Summary

Provides academic support to Nursing program students. Works directly with students assisting in one-on-one, small group, and classroom settings. Supports the Program’s objectives and initiatives as directed.

Essential Functions

• Directly supervises Nursing program tutoring sessions while adhering to College policies and Departmental procedures
• Recognizes and responds appropriately to the learning needs of a diverse student population
• Responds to student requests for overall nursing program learning assistance on an as needed basis
• Ensures that the lab provides a safe learning environment
• Affords assistance in the development of educational action plans
• Affords assistance in individual and/or small group tutoring sessions
• Affords assistance in the utilization of various types of audio-visual materials, computer applications, and other materials or delivery systems used in an instructional program
• Affords assistance in the retention of program students
• Supervises Work-Study students and Student Assistants
• Consults with faculty as needed
• Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
• Completion of a state board of nursing approved professional nursing education program
• Current active unencumbered licensure as a registered nurse in Ohio
• Minimum of two years of experience in the practice of nursing as a registered nurse: Specialty practice experience is required for some positions including but not limited to obstetrics, pediatrics, and psychiatric/behavioral health

• Possess working knowledge of Nursing concepts with the ability to apply in various situations

• Intermediate-level proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Proficiency in curriculum development, supervision, instruction and evaluation
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends to accommodate students’ needs
• Possess sensitivity to appropriately respond to the needs of a diverse population

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment; The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated; Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the duties of the job and will perform repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard to type. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, books, etc.; Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite
