Associate infant/Toddler Teacher
About the Role
Under the supervision of the Campus Director or Campus Supervisor, the Associate Infant/Toddler Teacher will guide children throughout the day, assist in providing quality, comprehensive child development services to preschool children and their families, and encourage parental involvement in educational planning, goal setting, and center activities. This role promotes the health, safety, nutrition, social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of preschool children enrolled in the program.
Responsibilities
- Interacting with Children:
- Facilitate interactions and learning experiences individually or in small groups to ensure optimal engagement for young children during activities, transitions, and personal care routines.
- Prioritize adult-child interactions, personal care routines, classroom environment, and familial cultural practices to develop intentional, child-led learning.
- Support the provision of specialized services for children with identified special needs in the classroom.
- Follow written policies and procedures for personal care routines such as feeding, diapering, toileting, hand washing, and safe sleep.
- Use CSEFEL strategies to guide children’s behavior, emphasizing co-regulation strategies to assist with managing strong emotions and behaviors.
- Prioritize the health and safety of children, demonstrating a strong understanding of adult-child ratios and active supervision strategies.
- Assessing Children:
- Observe children in all developmental domains and document observations according to policy and procedures within identified timelines.
- Conduct 45-day developmental screenings and three developmental assessments (DRDP-2015) for each child.
- Ensure timelines of 30, 45, and 90 days are met upon enrollment dates for home visits, mental health notes, developmental screenings, ASQ-3, ASQ-SE, transition plans, and vision & hearing screenings.
- Curriculum Preparation:
- Using the Program for Infant/Toddler Care (PITC) guidelines, develop curriculum plans with experiences based on children’s emerging interests and developmental stages.
- Create and implement developmentally appropriate experiences tailored to children’s interests and needs.
- Develop Individualized Learning Plans (ILP) for each child based on observations, screenings, parent input, and DRDP-2015 assessment results.
- Align curriculum plans and experiences with the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework and CA Infant/Toddler Learning and Development Foundations.
- Communication with Parents:
- Collaborate with Family Support Specialists to support families in case managing specific needs, advocating for parents, and encouraging parent involvement in the program.
- Partner with families to incorporate children’s home cultural practices/traditions in the classroom, promoting diversity and inclusivity.
- Inform parents about daily classroom routines, expectations, policies, and volunteer opportunities.
- Communicate with parents about incidents observed and recorded on-site regarding their child.
- Encourage and motivate parents to participate in all levels of the Head Start Program.
- Supervision:
- Assist volunteers and parents in working with children, ensuring proper health practices, food handling, and interactions/supervision of children.
- Work closely with teachers to ensure the well-being and safety of all children.
- Count children during/after transitions and throughout the day, communicate, and document on board.
- Understand emergency/safety procedures.
- Administration:
- Ensure the maintenance and filing of appropriate forms and documents in children’s files.
- Assist in performing height and weight measurements of children twice a year.
- Complete monthly meal counts and attendance records for the Childcare Food Program.
- Track and complete daily forms, including infant/toddler daily information, safe sleep checklist, and health/safety documentation.
- Classroom Maintenance:
- Maintain classroom equipment, work areas, and student files to ensure a safe and sanitary environment.
- Clean facilities, equipment, refrigerator, and playground area.
- Assist in keeping labeled classroom areas and objects.
- Rotate materials on low open shelves for children’s independent use.
- Set up and serve meals and snacks, ensuring nutritional needs are met.
- Check and sign for food deliveries, log temperatures, and follow heating/storage procedures.
- Respond to emergency situations to resolve safety concerns.
- Professional Development:
- Develop an individualized professional development plan annually with the Campus Director/Supervisor.
- Engage in Practice-based coaching cycles to improve teaching practices.
- Complete DRDP 2015 training and receive rater certification within 30 days of start date.
- Enroll in annual CSEFEL training and PITC Curriculum Framework training within 1 year of start date.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; enrollment in an Associate’s Degree program in Early Childhood Development or related field highly preferred.
- Experience: At least 1 year of professional experience working with Infants/Toddlers.
- Requirements:
- State of California Child Development Associate Teacher Level Permit
- Fingerprinting Clearance (DOJ & FBI)
- Clearance of Child Abuse Index (CACI)
- Current Physical Health Screening (every 2 years)
- Current Immunizations (TB, Influenza, MMR, Pertussis) (every 2 years)
- Current CPR & First Aid Certificate (every 2 years)
- Registered with the Early Care & Education Workforce Registry
- Language(s): Bilingual, bi-literate preferred (English/Spanish or other language based on program needs).

Physical Demands
Requires sitting (40%), walking (20%), and standing (40%). Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing and handling objects. Occasional lifting/moving up to 30 pounds. Requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

$35.06 - $38.19 Hourly
