About the Role

This is a contract, hybrid position based in Rancho Santa Fe, CA. The role involves professional interaction with vendors, manufacturers, and industry contacts to advance company interests, along with travel for vendor collaboration and trade shows.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes.
  • Travel to work with vendors, manufacturers, and attend industry trade shows.
  • Analyze data to determine appropriate courses of action.
  • Participate in the development, refinement, implementation, and management of Petco’s global sourcing strategy for assigned categories.
  • Serve as project manager for new product development within assigned categories.
  • Identify, assess, and recommend new suppliers.
  • Analyze bids and other data, proposing actionable recommendations.
  • Conduct or participate in supplier negotiations.
  • Collaborate with the Private Brand cross-functional team to optimize sourcing effectiveness.
  • Research and analyze manufacturer cost, capacity, and delivery history to ensure product meets brand specifications and quality standards.
  • Identify opportunities for cost optimization and margin enhancement throughout the supply chain.
  • Communicate issues to appropriate parties and drive resolution.
  • Manage ongoing vendor performance, including service, quality, and cost.
  • Monitor cost and availability trends of key cost factors (e.g., raw/packaging materials, labor, crude oil) and recommend actions.
  • Perform other related tasks and responsibilities as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, preferably in a related field.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in global sourcing, including manufacturing processes, quality control, and experience with national or specialty chain retailers.
  • Working knowledge of import/export marketing, manufacturing relationships, quality control/testing processes, and logistics.
  • Demonstrated ability to build partnerships based on trust, fairness, integrity, and honesty.
  • Strong negotiation skills with vendors, suppliers, regulatory agencies, and internal teams.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse leaders and associates across functional areas.
  • Capability to manage multiple responsibilities and shift focus between tasks with minimal challenge.
  • Business acumen and analytical skills.
  • Advanced computer skills, including MS Office Suite and ability to learn internal applications.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $42.55 - $42.55 per hour. Individual compensation will depend on qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, and internal equity.
