Associate General Counsel, Healthcare Law
Primarily remote; local candidates preferred. Must have the ability to travel onsite to our locations in Massachusetts as needed.
About the Role
This position is responsible for providing strategic legal advice for the health system, including its hospitals, agencies, and physician organizations. The role provides counsel on general healthcare issues, privacy, and regulatory matters, and reviews, drafts, and negotiates a wide array of contracts. Focus areas include contracts for general goods and services, consulting services, shared and managed services, physician employment agreements, business associate agreements, grants funding, collaboration agreements, data use agreements, and clinical trials, material transfers, and research agreements.
This position may serve on hospital committees and participate in working groups, providing practical legal guidance on regulatory, contracting, privacy, and operational matters. The role advises hospital departmental leaders on commercial, legal, privacy, and regulatory matters, supports organizational initiatives, and handles special projects and other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Provides expert legal advice and ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including healthcare laws and regulations.
- Manages litigation and dispute resolution to minimize organizational risk.
- Drafts, reviews, and negotiates contracts.
- Supports corporate governance practices.
- Supports policy development and collaborates with external counsel and regulatory agencies.
- Monitors legal and regulatory changes impacting business operations.
- Provides strategic legal insights and guidance to senior leadership.
- Models and reinforces ethical behavior by adhering to organizational policies and guidelines, supporting compliance initiatives, and conducting business with honesty.
- Builds consensus with strong negotiation, persuasion, and communication skills to propose enhancements to operational processes.
- Advocates for organizational culture in high-level planning and decision-making, focusing on performance accountability and operational efficiencies.
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate.
- Licensed or eligible to practice law in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- Five (5) years of legal experience working in the area of healthcare law.
Preferred Qualifications
- Eight (8) years of legal experience working in the area of healthcare law.
- In-house experience preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with hospital or healthcare environment, including understanding of hospital operations and medical terminology.

- Proven competence as an Attorney working for a Corporate Law Firm.
Physical Requirements
Professional office environment with typical office requirements such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. This is largely a sedentary role involving sitting most of the time but may require walking, standing, reaching, ascending/descending stairs, and operating office equipment. Frequently required to speak, hear, communicate, and exchange information. Must be able to see and read computer displays, fine print, and normal type size, and distinguish letters, numbers, and symbols. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Pay
The base pay range for this role is $147,995.12 - $188,688.50. Offers are determined using a comprehensive approach that considers relevant experience, certifications, education, skills, and internal equity to ensure fair, consistent, and competitive compensation.
