Associate General Counsel - Financial Services Product & Regulatory

A leading global financial services company is seeking a seasoned attorney to serve as a trusted advisor across its data services business, with a primary focus on new product development. The role is based in Midtown Manhattan, White Plains New York or Washington, D.C. and is in-office five days per week. Reporting to a senior member of the legal department, this counsel will support a wide range of legal matters across global business units—guiding product teams through the design and rollout of new offerings, assessing worldwide laws and regulations to identify and reduce risk, and handling a steady flow of agreement drafting and negotiation—while working closely with stakeholders throughout the organization to deliver pragmatic, timely advice.
Responsibilities
- Partner with product teams from concept through launch, advising on the structure and legal design of new data and analytics offerings, including products intended to support customers' regulatory compliance needs
- Evaluate new and existing products and services against applicable regulations—with particular depth in the Investment Advisers Act—to surface risks and keep offerings compliant
- Analyze laws and regulations across global jurisdictions to understand and mitigate risk tied to the company's products and services
- Draft, review, and negotiate agreements ranging from routine to highly complex
- Conduct legal review of marketing materials, advertisements, client communications, and press releases
- Examine internal processes, procedures, and documentation to confirm alignment with regulatory requirements
- Identify legal and regulatory risk within proposed business strategies and product plans, and offer practical, creative solutions
- Assist in the preparation and review of external Requests for Information (RFIs) and Requests for Proposal (RFPs)
- Provide timely, business-oriented legal advice to internal stakeholders across product, sales, marketing, and compliance functions
- Contribute to a positive, collaborative legal department culture
Requirements
- J.D. with active bar admission and 10+ years of legal experience spanning both law firm and in-house settings (candidates with other applicable backgrounds will also be considered)
- Experience advising a regulated entity, with working knowledge of the Investment Advisers Act; familiarity with broker-dealer and/or CFTC regulations is a plus
- Demonstrated ability to operate across a broad and varied range of product areas
- A quick study—genuine appetite for mastering new and complex areas of law
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deliver clear, concise advice to senior management and business heads and add value in commercial and technical discussions
- Proven ability to work independently, adapt in fast-changing environments, and manage multiple competing projects and internal clients at once
- Flexibility to accommodate international time zones and, when circumstances require, off-hours availability

Pay
The base salary range for this role is $260,000 to $290,000. This position is also eligible for incentive compensation in the form of annual cash bonus as well as annual equity grants, placing total estimated compensation in the $400,000 to $425,000+ range. Pay is based on multiple factors including but not limited to work experience, qualifications, credentials, and location.
