Associate Engineer (Transmission Line Design)

About the role

The Engineer performs design, engineering studies, maintenance, and project management for existing and new transmission lines above 100kV, handling multiple projects simultaneously.

Responsibilities

• Perform design and engineering to establish safe parameters meeting current codes, evaluate and select structure/material types, design wood structures, select routes for new lines, develop construction specifications, bid documents, direct drawing preparation, and provide cost estimates.
• Evaluate existing lines for National Electric Safety Code (NESC) compliance, safety guidelines, upgrades, and modifications; provide expert witness testimony; stay current with latest technology.
• Develop engineering solutions, cost and schedule estimates, and preliminary designs for project development and budgeting.
• Create project scoping documents, basis of design documents, and project control documents for projects within and outside Ameren’s service territory.
• Utilize project management tools and software to manage costs, schedules, track progress, and oversee transmission line design projects.
• Perform project management for overall project cost and schedule; coordinate with departments and external entities (real estate, drafting, engineering groups, construction crews, contractors, surveying, and consulting firms).
• Complete detailed design with drafting, prepare equipment and construction contract specifications, finalize cost/schedule estimates, and assist or lead project planning and coordination.
• Facilitate acquisition of permits for construction activities.
• Review external customers’ plans and specifications to ensure safe operation of Ameren’s Transmission system.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
• EIT certification or commitment to actively pursue one in Illinois and/or Missouri.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) License or commitment to actively pursue one in Illinois and/or Missouri.
• PLS-CADD design software experience preferred.
• Good analytical, communication, and human relations skills.
• Ability to handle multiple assignments with varying deadlines and prioritize effectively.
• Team-oriented work approach.
• Willingness to stay updated on current design standards and new technologies.
• Working knowledge of National Electric Safety Code (NESC).

New graduates will be considered. Technical career level depends on candidate credentials.

Pay

Compensation range: $71,100.00 – $137,200.00. This range encompasses multiple levels of the role, with career level and compensation determined by applicant’s credentials. Base salary is one component of a competitive package, which may include annual incentive payments based on individual and company performance.
