Associate Engineer, Transmission Line Engineering

About the Role
The Associate Engineer will work with complex systems and equipment, providing engineering and technical services to support our growing organization. This role offers a unique opportunity to work both in the office and the field on a variety of projects, including designing new substations and infrastructure, analyzing system disruptions, working with transformers, engineering electrical protection and control circuits, and handling equipment acceptance testing and failure analysis. This position supports the engineering, design, construction, maintenance, and operation of Transmission Lines on the Eversource System in NH, requiring familiarity with relevant design theories, codes, and software packages.
Responsibilities
- Design of overhead and underground transmission lines and supporting structures (e.g., poles, foundations, duct banks).
- Technical analysis (e.g., clearance evaluations, ampacity calculations).
- Development of documentation for and participation in regulatory and siting processes (e.g., creation of drawings, reports, cost and material estimates, interrogatory responses).
- Field support during construction of new or maintenance of existing lines.
- Support of Capital Investment Program: drafting documents for project initiation, including estimates, justifications, scopes, drawings, and photographs.
- Support of the design of overhead transmission lines using PLS-CADD and other associated software.
- Development of siting and permitting technical details and representing Eversource as the technical voice for system solutions (e.g., public presentations, forum discussions).
- Development and oversight of design details, specifications, material lists, and drawing packages for procurement and construction.
- Support the documentation of newly constructed Transmission Line facilities.
- Support the maintenance and operation of Transmission Line facilities with engineering analysis.
- Review external uses of Eversource rights-of-way against Eversource Standards.
- Analyze field data about the condition of Transmission Line Assets and provide technical guidance regarding replacement and/or remediation.
- Assist other organizations within Eversource (e.g., Plant Accounting, Transmission Asset Management, Real Estate, Legal, Regulatory Policy & Planning) with information and guidance regarding transmission facilities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering; Civil or Mechanical preferred.
- 0-3 years of related experience; engineering design experience preferred.
- Knowledge of Transmission Line & Engineering civil, structural, and electrical concepts.
- Familiarity with Transmission Line construction techniques.
- Familiarity with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), Massachusetts DPU Code, and various design standards (IEEE, CIGRE, ICEA, AEIC, IEC).
- Knowledge of AISC Steel Manual, ACI Building Code and Commentary, and ASTM material testing requirements.
- Familiarity with software such as PLS-CADD, Microsoft Office, SAG10, L-Pile, MathCAD, Pull Planner 4.0, USAmp, CYMCAP, MATLAB, FEA/COMSOL.
- Understanding of the Federal and New England Regulatory environment and its impact on the Transmission Business.
- Ability to interpret and analyze financial documents.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to make formal presentations and translate technical information for diverse audiences.
- Ability to develop and use collaborative relationships to facilitate work goals.
Working Conditions
- Must be available to work emergency restoration assignments as required.
- Must be available to travel between MA, CT, and NH as necessary.
- Position may require occasional to significant travel by car; a valid driver’s license is required.

Pay
The annual salary range for this position is $82,800.00–$92,000.00. This position is eligible for a potential incentive.
