Associate Engineer (Traffic)

About the Role

Emphasis for this position is on traffic calming projects and initiatives. Coordinate and perform a variety of multi-modal transportation, transit, and traffic planning and design activities to enable safe, attractive, comfortable, and independent access and travel for pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists, and transit users of all ages and abilities. Transportation activities include policy development, design, integration, recommendation, implementation, oversight, and analysis of City-wide and regional transportation policies, programs, and projects including Transportation Demand Management (TDM), transportation plans, parking programs, traffic modeling, and review of Environmental Impact Reports (EIRs).

Performs professional and technical civil engineering work in support of City public works and private development projects starting with simple projects and moving to more complex ones. Projects worked on may include civil works projects such as roads, drainage, grading, buildings, water and wastewater pipelines and treatment facilities, tanks, parks and landscaping, bike paths, environmental mitigation, and other related subjects.

The Associate Engineer is distinguished from the Assistant Engineer by the level of experience in municipal engineering and broader job knowledge. This role involves performing a wide variety of complex engineering assignments. Employees work under the general supervision of the Traffic Engineer and may provide supervision of work product to other engineers, inspectors, technicians, or intern staff.

Responsibilities

• Prepares construction drawings and specifications for a variety of City public works projects using AutoCAD and related civil design software to process projects through the City.
• Reviews and evaluates preliminary and final plans and specifications for private development.
• Prepares Requests for Proposals for support work.

Requirements

• 2–4 years of relevant experience.
• 4-year degree in Civil Engineering or related field.

Pay

$11,762 – $14,297 per month.
