Associate Engineer

About the role

Vishay manufactures one of the world's largest portfolios of discrete semiconductors and passive electronic components essential to innovative designs in the automotive, industrial, computing, consumer, telecommunications, military, aerospace, and medical markets. As a Product/Process Engineer in Yankton, SD, you will perform engineering of specific products from design inception to finished product, including manufacturing process and controls under the general direction of the Engineering Section Supervisor.

This position is located on-site in Yankton, SD, situated on the banks of the Missouri River and minutes from Lewis and Clark Lake, offering a variety of outdoor recreational activities.

Responsibilities

• Control and have design, testing, and engineering production responsibility for one or several routine to moderately complex projects.
• Fabricate or direct technicians in the fabrication of prototype models for test purposes.
• Redesign components as necessary following test procedures to meet performance specifications.
• Supply the drafting department with final sketches to be incorporated into the final draft form.
• Maintain adequate documentation to provide product history and other pertinent information for the design and production of assigned products.
• Recommend improvements, modifications, and possible new designs of production equipment to immediate supervisor.
• Perform design of simple to moderately complex test equipment jigs, fixtures, and tools.
• Handle line check-out of new equipment.
• Serve in a consulting capacity for troubleshooting prototype or production equipment.
• Perform cost-saving activities.
• Examine production methods, materials, and facilities to identify areas of improvement and initiate necessary actions with vendors and internal departments.
• Investigate production and process problems and implement practical and effective solutions.
• Work with customers regarding product design, specifications, materials, and manufacturing capabilities.
• Re-evaluate and redesign specific products for advancement beyond customer or military specification requirements.
• Travel as needed to discuss customer problems involving assigned products or investigate product-related issues in the field.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Materials Engineering or its equivalent.
• Must be a US Person (US Citizen, Permanent Resident, Refugee, or Asylee).
• Three to five years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment is desirable.
• High level of mechanical aptitude and ability to translate design and process ideas into usable specifications.
• Ability to work independently to develop or manage complex projects.
• Ability to work effectively as a team member and/or project leader.
• High degree of customer service orientation.
