About the Role

As an Associate Engagement Coordinator at SpartanNash, you will drive the employment life cycle for your assigned store. This role focuses on creating and executing internal employee engagement initiatives to foster a people-first culture. You will support the hiring process, orientation, training, safety, compliance, and store communications.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the full-cycle recruiting process in Workday, including job postings, interviews, and coordination with store leadership.
  • Complete job offers and onboarding processing through Workday.
  • Conduct orientation sessions for the store as needed.
  • Partner with the local HR Business Partner to organize hiring events or secure additional staffing resources.
  • Oversee the first 90 days of employment for new hires to validate training and drive engagement, measured by early-stage retention.
  • Own store engagement programs, including daily, weekly, and periodic recognition initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance at the store level, including timely terminations, I-9 processing, minor work permits, and workforce management system reporting.
  • Maintain off-stage store locations (e.g., break rooms, offices, training spaces) to enhance the associate experience.
  • Serve as the Person-In-Charge for portions of the weekly schedule based on store volume and needs.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma (required).
  • College degree or coursework in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field (preferred).
  • One year of Human Resources administrative support experience or relevant HR college coursework (required).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact with associates at all levels.
  • Attention to detail, strong data entry skills, and effective organization, prioritization, and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to handle and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Knowledge of human resources principles and practices (highly preferred).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and prior experience with HRIS/HRMS (preferred).
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and energetic environment.

Physical Requirements

  • May be required to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Must stand and walk for extended periods, with frequent bending, stooping, twisting, and turning.
  • Works in a typical retail store environment with varied temperatures and occasional exposure to outside weather conditions.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
  • Travel requirements vary by assignment.
